You Are What You Eat

All pet owners have been concerned recently about the quality and ingredients of the food they feed their pets because of the recalls of potentially contaminated pet food. Now the folks who bring you all kinds of quality, organic foods "Newman’s Own Organics" have a line of organic pet foods. The product line includes adult dry food, advanced dog dry food, canned chicken and brown rice, canned turkey, and various dog treats.

The Newman’s Own Organics product certifies that more than 70% of all ingredients used in the formulation of all Newman's Own Organics foods are organic. For example: the chicken used is raised without growth hormones and antibiotics and fed only a 100% natural, all-vegetable diet. The additives include soy meal, brown rice, barley, peas, flax seed, oats, carrots, and sorghum - all organic. There are no byproducts, chemical additives, or artificial preservatives, flavorings or colors.

Organic food is produced according to established production standards. For crops, it means they were grown without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers or sewage sludge, and that they were processed without ionizing radiation or food additives.

For animals, it means they were reared without the routine use of antibiotics and without the use of growth hormones. In the United States the National Organic Program establishes standards to be met before a product may be called organic.
On the front page of the product website is a great cartoon. It shows a cat carrying a disgusting looking dead rat while a dog stands over its bowl of Newman’s Organic Pet Food saying, "You are what you eat".
