Where Can I Take My Dog For An MRI?

You never know what you are willing to pay to help your canine companion until you are confronted with an animal in pain. You want to stop it - you must DO SOMETHING. Now there is a new something you can do to help find out what is wrong and what can be done to help.

An expensive, but very useful, diagnostic test to look at tumors and disc problems that may be causing pain is Magnetic Resonance Imagery (MRI). There has been an increasing use of this powerful investigative technique in veterinary medicine in recent years. Sometimes your pet insurance will help you pay for the procedure.

MRI is a diagnostic technique that provides high-quality cross-sectional or three dimensional images of organs and structures within the body without using X-rays or other radiation. During the imaging, the dog lies inside a hollow cylindrical magnet.

The Iams Company Imaging Centers house the most advanced equipment on the market, manufactured by Siemens with technical expertise provided by ProScan, a world leader in MRI technology and education. MRIs are available to area pet owners for their pets at the recommendation of their veterinarian.

"This is a breakthrough in pet care," said Jeff Ansell, president of The Iams Company." A terrific partnership has been created to bring state-of-the-art human medical technology to dogs and cats. This is a giant step in helping us succeed in The Iams Company’s mission to enhance the well-being of dogs and cats."

The Iams Imaging Centers are located in Vienna, VA, Raleigh, N.C., and Redwood City, California, near San Francisco. You can also find MRI capabilities in most special veterinary hospitals. After your pet’s images have been reviewed by specially trained radiologists, you and your vet decide on the best course of treatement.
