Smaller Can Be Better
People get dogs for many different reasons - the working dog who is out on the ranch or with farm animals herding and protecting; the hunting companion; the playful mutt that runs after a Frisbee or "plays soccer" with your ten year old. But for folks living in limited spaces, like an apartment, a small dog may be the right choice.
Small dogs make wonderful companion animals. They are less costly to feed and require less space for exercise. Pedigreed small dogs have different personalities and requirements. So, you need to do some research to find one that fits your lifestyle.
Small dog breeds include: Pomeranians (playful and active), Chihuahuas (can be very aggressive, don’t require a lot of exercise), Boston Terriers (good with children, easy to keep clean), Jack Russell Terrier (very active, intelligent), Maltese (protective), Shitzu (easy going and non-aggressive, daily brushing), Bichon Frise (good family pets, don’t shed), Dachshund (good watchdogs). There are other small breeds as well as many deserving dogs at rescue and humane societies.
Once you have your small dog, you will want to provide good care, good food and perhaps a bit of pampering. To learn more about ALL the wonderful things you can do for and give to your small dog, check you Small Dog Paradise dedicated to pampering small dogs. The site offers posts on alternative treatments, breeding, supplies, grooming, dog food recipes, health care, even dog party tips and horoscopes.
