Pet Friendly Grass Fertilizer

Pet Friendly Grass Fertilizer

Having a green, weed-free lawn is the goal of many suburbanites and exburbanites. But that green lawn should not put your pet at risk. Did you know that many chemicals commonly used on lawns can be harmful to your pet's health? Some veterinarians report a high number of ill pets after they were exposed to lawn chemicals. The most dangerous types of pesticides include snail and slug bait, ant and roach bait, ant and roach traps and mouse baits. Metaldehyde, one of the poisonous ingredients in many baits, is often appealing to dogs.

At a minimum, when you are planning on putting chemicals on your lawn, read the labels and follow the directions. Keep your pets away from lawns after the chemicals have been applied and while they are still wet. Dispose of, or safely store, any unused chemicals so that they are out of reach of pets and children. Make sure to clean up any spills. And, if you suspect that your pet has been exposed to lawn chemicals, immediately call your vet.

There are products you can put on your lawn to control weeds and green-it-up that are pet safe. Pet-Safe-Fertilizers offers fertilizers, soil amendments, pest management and supplements that are natural and do not contain toxins. Their fertilizers contain fish, seaweed, or humic acid. Soil amendments include humic acid as well as general purpose nutrients such as that contained in their compost by the cup and power potions.

And then there is Pest Predator that contains activated garlic extract and hot pepper extracts. You may find that natural products work more slowly than toxic chemicals - but isn’t the peace of mind that your pet will not be harmed worth it?
