Being Prepared Means Preparing for Your Pets Too

Most areas of the United States are subject to some unpleasant weather. Weather related disasters are those that interrupt your normal life patterns for several days including floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and deep snow. You probably have some basic supplies set aside for weather events such as water, snack foods, and batteries. What do you need to have during this difficult time for your pets?

Noah's Wish has several excellent recommendations. You should have at least a 3 day supply of dog food including dry food, stored in an air-tight container, and dog food cans with pop off lids. You should rotate the food supply every three months for freshness. You also need three days supply of water and medicine. If you have to evacuate your home, be sure you remember to take pet food and water bowls with you.

You should also keep a copy of your animal's medical history, his record of current vaccinations, and document any special medical needs. If you are leaving your pet with friends or neighbors, be sure to include a pet-care authorization form. The Noah's Wish website offers a simple, sample form you can print and complete. There are many other helpful recommendations on the Noah's Wish site so - be prepared.
